Alder and Oak

In many traditions trees hold an important place in people’s lives. In the Celtic tradition from which Casey and Diana have lineages, trees marked births and identified powerful elements of people’s character. We believe it is important to note those strengths and acknowledge how they play a part in the process of healing and self actualization.  It was also understood that three trees, known as the “Guardians,” protected revered, healing places. We hope to provide the kind of healing environment with the same intention of a sacred grove: a place for clients to reconnect with their strengths, sense of purpose and vitality.

The name Alder and Oak speaks to some of the Guardians involved in the work of therapy. These trees mark the strengths that the professionals of our organization bring and protect in therapeutic work.

The Oak is heralded in many traditions as an important and mighty tree. In regards to Casey and Diana’s own heritages, in Irish and Greek mythology, The Oak represents honesty, truth, courage, endurance and wisdom. It was also considered the tree sacred to the gods. Our professionals provide and protect the conditions necessary for everyone to be honest, willing to persevere and to show courage to reconnect with their own integrity and inner reverence.

The Alder represents a healthy environment, harmonious balance and a fertile earth which promotes growth. It can revitalize malnourished soil and help damaged land heal. The Alder does not rot under water, and cities have been built atop this wood. The Alder has been used to make tools of many kinds and is medicinal. We aim to assist clients in finding the tools and “medicines” that work for them and to rebuild the foundations of their lives in a sustainable manner. The Alder when cut turns from white to red, representing the wound and how it is important to treat our raw places with respect and compassion. In this way, we bring forth the treasure from the trauma.

As an organization, Alder and Oak aims to create a safe “grove” in which healing takes place. We hope to bring these strengths represented by the trees to the courageous journey of healing you are considering embarking upon. What is not in the name, but is implicit, is your tree. The goal would be to find your own Guardian: the strengths you possess to provide the ability to heal, to grow and to have the life you want.

We are excited to have the chance to embark on this discovery with you.
